How to Replace the Windshield Wipers on a 4Runner

While driving down the road it can be quite an inconvenience to realize your windshield wipers are worn out when it begins to rain. A quick splash of water on your windshield can be enough to impair your view of the road long enough for an accident. Replacing the windshield wipers on your Toyota 4Runner is very easy and costs about $10 for new windshield wipers. Check your wipers monthly to make sure the rubber wiper is still fastened to the metal windshield wiper bow. If the rubber is frayed or beginning to separate, then it is time to buy a new windshield wiper.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase new windshield wipers. At an automotive store, provide the year of your Toyota 4Runner and ask for the proper size of windshield wipers.

    • 2

Flip each windshield wiper up off the windshield to the 90-degree angle on the windshield wiper hinge.

    • 3

Locate the hook slot connector on the windshield wiper arm connected to the middle of the windshield wiper. There will be a latch that has spring tension that keeps the windshield wiper in place.

    • 4

Grip firmly the windshield wiper in the center with the pliers. Pull out on the windshield wiper to free it from the spring tension hook slot connector. Do this to both windshield wipers.

    • 5

Center the new windshield wiper over the spring tension hook slot connector on the windshield wiper arm. Squeeze the center of the windshield wiper against the connector on the windshield wiper arm with the pliers until it slides under the spring tension hook slot connector. Do this to both windshield wipers. Lay the windshield wipers flat against the windshield once the installation is complete.
