Instructions

  1. Cut the Fabric

    • 1

      Lay out your fabric.

    • 2

Cut off a strip of fabric from one end, measuring the 60-inch width and making it 24-inches long. You should now have two pieces of fabric, 24-by-60 inches and 84-by-60 inches. Cut the 24-by-60 inches in half, giving you two pieces at 24-by-30 inches.

    • 3

Fold the large piece of fabric in half so that it measures 30-by-84 inches.

    • 4

Measure down from the top 13 inches and in from the fold 11 inches. This is where you will place the armholes.

    • 5

Cut out the armholes, 9 inches tall and 6 inches across at the widest parts. It should look like a large oval.

    Sew the Snuggle Blanket

    • 6

Sew the two small pieces of fabric in half length-wise with the right sides together. These are your sleeves.

    • 7

Turn the sleeves right side out. Match the sleeves to the armholes and pin them in place.

    • 8

Sew the sleeves to the armholes. Hem the ends of the sleeves or leave the edges rough.

Tips & Warnings

  • A lightweight fleece will work for the snuggle blanket, but a double thickness, polar or heavy weight might be better.

  • You can hand sew the snuggle blanket or use a sewing machine. A zigzag stitch on the sewing machine is best for the attaching the sleeves, however.

  • Because of how fleece is made, there is no need to hem or finish the raw edges. You can sew them up, but there is no need. The fabric will not pull or run.

  • If you would like to add pockets to your snuggle blanket, cut out the armholes carefully and sew them to the outside of the snuggle blanket. Pockets provide a place to put your remote controls or glasses when you are relaxing under your snuggle blanket.
