How to Limit Internet Access
Employers needing a way to prevent workers from accessing social networking sites during the work day or parents wanting to limit the time their children spend online can do so by using software designed to limit Internet usage. These limitations can apply to approved and blocked sites or times of day when the Internet is inaccessible. Once a software program has been installed, as long as you keep it running no users can change the settings without your password.

Download and install an Internet limitation program on any computer you wish to control. One such program from accomplishing this is iNet Protector. (See Reference 2 below.) Select the password you will use to change your Internet limits.

Open iNet Protector and select "Schedule" from the main menu. Enter your password when prompted.

Highlight the times and dates on the calendar when the Internet will be unusable from that computer.

Select "Daily quotas" from the main menu and click on "Enable Internet usage quotas." Enter the number of hours the computer can be online. Click on "OK" when finished.

Choose "Settings" from the iNet Protector main menu and then click on the "Blocked sites" option. Enter the sites that will not be viewable by users. Return to the main menu and click "Disable Internet."

Choose "Allowed Sites" from the "Settings" menu and enter the address of sites that users are allowed to visit. All other sites will be blocked if you choose this option.

Test your Internet settings by visiting pages that you've blocked or allowed. When you're satisfied, exit the iNet Protector menu but keep the program running.
