Origami, the ancient Japanese art of paper folding, allows one to make an infinite number of ordinary items out of a single square of paper. Making a paper canoe involves just eight folding steps. All you need is quality origami paper, a little focus and a good set of hands to fashion yourself a miniature canoe boat.
Lay down a piece of origami paper with the side you want for the outside of your boat against the table.
2
Fold the paper horizontally in half.
3
Fold the paper vertically in half and then unfold so that you have a folding line dividing two squares.
4
Fold the left square in halfway to the line and then unfold it.
5
Fold the left corner in to the last folding line (it will form a small triangle).
6
Unfold it, and then open the left square only at the triangle fold, exposing a little bit of the other side and forming a shape that will look like a small house.
7
Repeat steps 4 through 6 for the right-hand side square.
8
Fold both the left and right "houses" back to their respective sides so that you no longer see any of the other side of the paper.
9
Turn the shape upside down.
10
Fold it in half and then unfold.
11
Use your folding lines as guides as you fold in the first layer of both the top left and right corners until they meet the closest fold line.
12
Turn the shape so that the longer side is on the right.
13
Tuck in the top right and left triangular corners.
14
Push open the bottom to form the base of your canoe.
Tips & Warnings
Use a ruler to flatten the paper and really define your folding guide lines.
