How to Convert a Pelican Case to a Backpack
Pelican cases have long been the trusted protective equipment for a variety of high-cost technological gadgetry. The people who use them most often find themselves traveling quite a bit, and if you have one Pelican case you may have several. Converting one Pelican case into a backpack can help with load distribution immensely and can be done with some basic materials found at a local hardware store.

Secure all contents within the Pelican case and shut the lid. Close both latches on the case.

Situate the cam buckles on the case. Pelican cases come pre-equipped with strap grooves around the circumference of the case; you'll notice these channels running away from each latch on the case. The buckle portion of the cam buckles will rest on the flat side of the case rather than the bottom or the top, where the handle is.

Loop the strap around the case, making sure to keep the strap within the pre-equipped groove. When you arrive back at the cam buckle, slide it through the metal piece and pull taut. One or two lever cranks past hand-tightness should be all that is necessary to get a snug fit. You'll have several feet of extra strap available.

Position the case across your back where you want it to rest while you wear it. Ask a friend to hold it in place for you. Drape the extra length of straps over your shoulders and then loop back under your armpits so that the armhole is wide enough to fit comfortably but small enough to provide a secure fit.

Mark the location where the strap end makes contact with the strap as it leaves the case to drape over your back. Remove the case and sew the end to this location using a needle and industrial strength thread. Join the straps with two to three inches of reinforced stitches, using the standard box X style, to provide extra durability.
