How to Change a WoW Character's Hairstyle

Before 2008, your World of Warcraft (WoW) character was stuck with the same look you chose when you created it. You were unable to change his hair and facial style, color and general appearance. Since late 2008, however, in patch 3.0, right before the release of "Wrath of the Lich King," Blizzard added the "barbershop" feature to the game that now allows you to change and customize your character's look and style, no matter what level she is.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to your appropriate faction's city that has a barbershop, and ask a guard to point you in the right direction. This will give you the exact point on the city map of where the barbershop is located. Characters in the Alliance have a choice between Stormwind and Ironforge. Horde characters can choose between Undercity and Orgrimmar.

If you have the "Burning Crusade" expansion, travel to Area 52 and Cosmowrench in Netherstorm. With the "Wrath of the Lich King" expansion, you'll find a barbershop in the city of Dalaran.

Click on one of the barber chairs in the room. Here, the barbershop interface opens on the right side of your screen. It has a section to change your hairstyle, hair color, and facial features specific to your race and gender. Use the left and right arrows on the interface to make changes to your character. You will see the total cost of your changes at the bottom of the interface. If you want to start over hit "Reset," and if you change your mind and don't want to change your hair hit "Cancel."

Change your hairstyle, hair color and features to your liking. The hairstyle choices are limited only to the hairstyles you can choose when you first create a character and four to five extra styles that were added with the implementation of the barbershops in patch 3.0 of WoW. The facial features and hair color are also limited to what you can originally choose. Your character creation choices also depend on the race and gender of your character. Blizzard recently enabled a skin tone change for the Tauren race, which will show up in the interface if you play a Tauren.

Hit "Okay" when you are happy with the hairstyle, hair color and/or features you picked.

Tips & Warnings

  • Using the barbershop earns you the achievement "Shave and a Haircut."

  • If you are unhappy with the way your character's new look turns out after you have already paid, you will have to return to a barbershop and pay to change it again; there are no refunds, nor can you revert to your original hair and features for free.
