How to Connect a DVD Player to a Cable Ready TV

A cable ready television is a TV set that is capable of receiving cable broadcasts without a receiver. Most televisions made within the past several years are classified as a cable ready TV. However, just because a television is classified as such, doesn't mean it needs to be connected to cable. In addition, a cable ready television can be connected to a DVD player without any major installation procedures.

Instructions

    • 1

Power down the DVD player and the cable ready television. When both sets are on it increases the likelihood of electronic shock. Although the shock doesn't typically hurt, it can be rather startling.

    • 2

Connect the RCA cables to the Video Out port on the back of the DVD player. The Video Out port is made up of three cables, two for audio and one for video. The audio cables are red and white while the video cable is yellow. Make sure the correct colored cable is inserted into the correct port.

    • 3

Plug the other end of the RCA cables into the Video In port on the cable ready television. If the television has several Video In ports, make sure all of the cables are connected to the same row of ports.

    • 4

Power on the cable ready television and the DVD player. Press the "Video" button and the TV will display what is in the DVD player.
