How to Make a Paper Ornament

Paper crafts are a great addition to any Christmas or holiday tradition. Paper ornaments are safe for the lower portion of the tree, when glass bulbs and tinsel have to be moved out of the reach of small children and pets. They are also a great activity for excited and bored children who are out of school and eager for the excitement of the holidays. They are a great way to use up leftover craft scraps and tidbits sitting around. The only limits are your family's imagination and resources. Why not get creative and crafty? Instructions

    • 1

Gather old cookie cutters. You can use new ones just as easily. However, they will likely get dirty with pencil marks, glue and glitter.

    • 2

Trace the outline of your chosen cookie cutter on the paper of your choice. Use your imagination. Construction paper, colored copy paper and thick wrapping paper all work great.

    • 3

Cut out your design. Use child-safe scissors if you are working with small children.

    • 4

Punch a hole on the top with the hole punch. String a five-inch piece of ribbon through the hole and tie on the top.

    • 5

Pour glue on the places you want to decorate and attach glitter, beads, pipe cleaners and anything else you want to use to decorate.

    • 6

Allow to dry overnight, giving sufficient time for pieces to adhere. Place the ornament on a Christmas tree or other place for display.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have leftover fabric scraps from sewing projects, incorporate them as well. Imagine a scarf on a snowman ornament or pants on a gingerbread man.

  • Note that some metal cookie cutters are sharp. Use only dull or plastic cookie cutters if you have small children.
