How to Build a Skateboarding Pool Ramp

Making your own skateboarding ramp that launches you into a pool can be a fun and interesting project. With the proper materials, it should take you no longer than a few hours to complete this project. A pool ramp is the best way to try those new tricks you've been waiting to try: It's a safe landing, and allows you to innovate with less chance of injury.

Things You'll Need

  • 3 2x4 wood planks, 2 feet long
  • 2 2x4 wood planks, 4 feet long
  • 1 sheet of plywood, 4 feet by 2 feet

Instructions

  1. Building

    • 1

Screw two of the 2-foot 2x4s into the 4-foot 2x4s, forming an "L" shape. The 2-foot boards will be the ramp's feet, standing up to create the height of the ramp, while the 4-foot boards form the takeoff structure--what you ride on to jump off the ramp.

    • 2

Attach the leftover 2-foot 2x4 as a cross beam to hold the two legs of the framework together at the top of the ramp, connecting the elbows of the "L" shapes.

    • 3

Place your plywood sheet on the structure, with the plywood on top of the 4-foot sections of the "L" shape. Screw the plywood sheet into the framework to form the ramp.

    • 4

Test the ramp to make sure it's sturdy and can hold your weight before you skate on it.

    • 5

Place the ramp you've just built right up next to your in-ground pool and begin skating.
