How to Repair My Bonsai Tree at Home

A bonsai tree is a hobby requiring a lot of patience. It can take years to grow a tree and slowly shape it into the form that you are shooting for. This is why it can feel like a great loss when the tree becomes damaged. However, you should not panic right away; in some cases the tree can be repaired with a simple step.

Instructions

    • 1

Prune the area of the broken branch if it completely came off. In this case, trying to get the branch to reattach will not work. Allow it to grow back from the broken area.

    • 2

Place a drop of Super Glue in the break if the branch is still connected in at least one small area and press the branch back together. Super Glue products are sometimes used in the medical profession to close wounds when stitches and other devices are not available. The same principle is being used here.

Hold in place until the glue has dried. The outer part of the branch, just under the thin bark layer, is actually the important part that transports nutrients. Gluing the inner wood section will allow the outer layer to grow back together. The glued section will not be as bendable in the future, so do not try to bend that spot again.
