How to Get Limewire Working With Norton Security

Symantec's Norton line of security utilities remain some of the most popular programs available to the computer user, due to their ease of use. Unfortunately, at times Norton's firewall encounters a program that it is not used to and suspects it is a virus or other malware. Such is the case with LimeWire; you will need to configure Norton's firewall to work with LimeWire for it to function properly.

Instructions

    • 1

Run LimeWire. Usually, Norton Security will detect the program the moment that it runs and ask you what to do. In the window that appears, specify that you want to allow the program to run. If no such window opens up, proceed to the next step.

    • 2

Open up the Norton firewall using the option on your status bar. If your firewall is part of a suite, such as Norton Internet Utilities or Norton 360, open that instead and select the tab or link for the firewall in the window that appears.

    • 3

Click the "Configure" button in the window that appears. You should see a list of options. Click the "Programs" tab.

    • 4

Do one of the following, depending on what appears on your screen: If the Manual Program Control list has programs in it, click one of the programs, and then press "Ctrl+A." If it does not have programs in it, skip to Step 6.

    • 5

Click the "Remove" button. Two dialog boxes will appear, one after the other. Select "Yes" in both dialog boxes. A third dialog will appear containing options for the program scan.

    • 6

      Click "Program Scan."

    • 7

Enable the check box options in the Program Scan dialog that represent each hard drive and partition. The Norton firewall will detect LimeWire and get it working with the firewall.
