How to Add HTML Code for Counters to a Web Page
A website counter is an effective tracking tool that you can use to count the number of visitors to your web page and/or allow users to see the traffic that your page has. Perhaps you want to test the response to different pages on your website, or maybe you want to see how if new content attracts a larger audience. Using a web counter generator, you can get the necessary HyperText Markup Language (HTML) code to add your own counter to your website.

1
Review web counter providers like website-hit-counters.com, easycounter.com, statcounter.com, simplehitcounter.com and freestatscounter.com. Providers either present various offerings that you can choose for your own web page, or allow you to customize a style using the interface on their website. These features are typically free, but read the "Terms of Service (TOS)" agreement to ensure that you can follow the requirements--such as not using the tool on adult-related websites--before using the service.
-
2
Sign up for a free account (if required) to gain access to website counter designs and/or tools. If the host requires this, they usually ask for a user name, password, website and email address.
-
-
3
Select a ready-made counter style by clicking the button next to it, or use the provider menus to choose features, such as a background and number color, to style the counter yourself.
-
4
Obtain the counter code by clicking a button like "Submit" or "Done." Copy the lines of HTML code by selecting them and using your web browser's "Copy" function.
-
5
Launch an HTML text editor, such as Dreamweaver, and open a web page by selecting the "Open" option from the File menu. Place your cursor in the area on the code page where you want your counter to appear.
-
6
Paste the HTML code obtained in Step 4 by using your text editor's Paste function. Furthermore, use your editor's Preview option to ensure that the counter shows up correctly and that you are happy with the location of this feature on your page.
-
7
Save your file and place it on your web server to publish your web page with the counter.
