How to Tell a Real Prada
The Prada label came out of Milan, Italy, in 1913. Mario Prada began and ran this business with two boutiques in Italy until his granddaughter, Miuccia Prada, took over in 1978. Prada is a high-end clothing and accessory line, with handbags starting at $400 and increasing to more than $3,000, depending on the fabric. Imitation Prada purses are for purchase on the street and online, and they look almost identical. Looking at small details of the handbag will determine if the handbag is an authentic Prada. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Check for a dust bag. A Prada dust bag is white with the brand's logo printed on the front. It protects the handbag when it is in storage or not being used. If a handbag is wrapped in plastic or does not have a dust bag, it is probably a knockoff.

Look at the inside of the purse. Real Prada handbags have a fabric lining that has the word Prada written in it, along with rope- and chain-like designs. The inside of an authentic Prada bag also will have a tag on the inside that simply says, "Prada Made In Italy." Check for professional, almost flawless stitching around the tag. Fake Prada bags sometimes have this tag, but the Prada logo is incorrect or the tag is glued to the inside of the purse.

3
Ask about the authenticity card. Each Prada handbag comes with documentation that it is a real Prada product with a serial number.

4
Look at the Prada logo on the outside of the handbag. Most of the logos have the same color background as the part of the purse it is sewn onto. The "R" in Prada does not go straight down. On a fake purse, the logo may be glued on or have loose stitching. Check to see if the stitching is coming undone, or if the threads are a different color. Check metal components, such as a zipper pull, to see if the word Prada is embossed. This is a sign of a real Prada.
