How to Cook King Crab on the BBQ
Alaskan king crab is one of the most common types of crab in most parts of the United States. Unless you live on the coast, it may be difficult to even find any other type of crab legs. King crab legs are generally cooked almost immediately after being caught, and then frozen to preserve their flavor while they are shipped to other parts of the country. The three main ways of preparing the crab are boiling, steaming and grilling on the BBQ. Cooking on the BBQ can produce superior results compared to the other methods when done correctly. 1
Let the crab legs thaw if they are frozen. It is best to let them sit in the refrigerator for one full day to ensure they thoroughly thaw, but it can take much less time, depending on the size of the legs. If the legs easily bend at the joint, then they are ready to use.

2
Prepare the grill. If you use a gas grill, set the temperature to 275 degrees. If you use a charcoal grill, make a single layer of charcoal on the bottom of the grill and light it.

3
Wrap the crap legs in aluminum foil. The foil promotes even cooking and prevents meat from falling through the cracks of the grill.
-
4
Put the wrapped crab legs on the grill once it is heated up. A gas grill should take no more than 15 minutes to heat up to 275 degrees. If you use a charcoal grill, then wait for the charcoal to turn white, and then wait an additional 10 minutes. The crab legs can go anywhere on the cooking surface with a gas grill, but they should go near the edge of the cooking surface on a charcoal grill. If the legs get too hot, the meat will dry out.
-
5
Leave the crab legs on the heat for eight to ten minutes. If the crab legs are not precooked, leave them on the heat for 20 minutes.
