How to Make My Own Vent Server With More Than 8 Clients
Vent is the abbreviation for the Ventrilo program. Ventrilo allows people that use your server to talk with each other. Ventrilo is mostly used with gaming servers, although people still use it as an alternative to making expensive international phone calls through their phone service provider. The pro version of Ventrilo is the only version that supports chatting among more than 8 people.

After you register you register your server on Ventrilo, you will be able to change accessibility options for Ventrilo that are going to be used on your server, mainly 0,1 and 2. If you click on "0", you can have an unlimited amount of clients and your server will basically be open to the public. Making the setting "1" will allow you to create one universal password, which you can then give to eight different clients. If you choose "1", you will have to put in a password into a section that will pop up called "password." The "2" setting will allow people to create users on your server (you can choose who can make accounts and ban IP addresses) and use them with their own passwords. There is a place for you to put an "admin password" so that you can access the control panel to ban users or change settings. When you have configured all the settings, go back to the main menu of Ventrilo and click "install." Clicking on this will not install Ventrilo into your program folder again, it will enable Ventrilo on your server and make it ready for use. Now remote users can use Ventrilo through your computer.

The free version of Ventrilo can service up to eight people. However, to set up Ventrilo for more than eight simultaneous clients, you must either buy a license for the pro version or rent a server that has a Ventrilo license. The step-by-step process outlined in this article is used on the Pro version of Ventrilo; that is the only version that can service more than 8 simultaneous clients.
Ventrilo is compatible with pretty much any OS; however, some of the new OSes have problems running Ventrilo because they were not optimized for running the kind of codec software Ventrilo uses. All known problems with Ventrilo are addressed in the FAQ page at the Ventrilo website.
