How to View Pictures on XP
Since the release of Windows 95, each successive version of Windows has included more features with the multimedia lover in mind. Windows XP expands on these concepts and includes a powerful built-in application for viewing pictures and correcting the ones that are oriented in the wrong direction. Use the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer to view pictures in Windows XP.

Go to the folder where your pictures are stored. If you would like to see previews of the images contained in the folder before opening them in the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, right click in an open area of the folder and click "View" then "Thumbnails." This thumbnail view turns the generic Windows image icons into actual representations of the images, allowing you to find the one that you are looking for more easily.

Double click on the picture that you would like to view. If the picture opens in the incorrect application, right click on the image file and click "Preview." It will open in the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.

Double click the title bar at the top of the window to expand the image to fill the whole screen.

Click the left- and right-facing arrows at the bottom of the window to cycle through all of the pictures stored in the folder.

Click the magnifying glass icons at the bottom of the window to zoom into or out of the image.

Click the green triangular icons to rotate the image. Each click will rotate the image 90 degrees clockwise or counter-clockwise.

Right click on any image and click "Set as Desktop Background" to change your Windows wallpaper to that picture.

Click the icon shaped like an easel and paint brush to close the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer and re-open it in Paint. This allows you to make edits to the image.

Close the program when you are ready to return to Windows.
