How to Position Yourself When Cutting Steel Strapping
Steel strapping is used worldwide as a method to bundle different goods together for safe transporting. Since the steel strapping is commonly used to bundle heavy products, it is put under tremendous tension. When cutting the steel strapping it is very important to follow the correct steps, since even light bundles can create a dangerous snap because of the amount of tension the steel strapping tool creates. Check your surroundings for other people that the strap could possibly hit. All persons, other than the one cutting, should clear the area.

Position yourself to the opposite side of the bundle and steel strapping you will cut.

Make sure you are to the side of the strapping. You want to be as far away from the direction the loose end will fly as possible.

Place steel strapping between the blades of your cutters.

Cut the steel strapping using proper steel strapping cutters.

Tips & Warnings
If the gauge of the steel strapping requires two hands to complete the cut, then turn your face away before making the cut.
If possible, cover your exposed areas, like neck and mouth, with your free arm.
Never use another tool in place of a proper steel strap cutting tool, (i.e. hammer, saws, pliers).
