How to Add RAM to a Dell Inspiron Laptop
If you're looking for more memory on your Dell Inspiron laptop, it doesn't take much to add RAM. You can purchase the RAM directly from the Dell website (see Resources to look up your specific Inspiron model) or other online sites. When you have the RAM, you can add it to your Inspiron laptop yourself.

1
Place the laptop on a clean, flat surface. You'll be turning the computer upside down and this will prevent scratching the top of the laptop.
-
2
Turn off the computer. Make sure it is completely off and not in a sleep or hibernation mode. Disconnect the computer from its power charger. Disconnect all other external cables. Nothing should be attached to the laptop.

3
Close the laptop and turn it upside down on the surface.
-
4
Remove the battery cover by sliding the latch. Carefully remove the battery and set it aside in a safe place.
-
5
Using the screwdriver, loosen the screw from the memory module cover. Set aside the screw and lift the cover.
-
6
Remove your existing memory module. Make sure to hold the memory module by the edges. Slowly spread apart the clips on each side of the module connector. The module will pop up and you can remove it.
-
7
Install the new RAM by aligning the module to the connector. Holding it by its edges, put the module into the connector. Move the module down until it clicks. If the module is installed improperly, the computer won't boot. Re-install the module if you don't hear it click into the connector.
-
8
Replace the module cover and insert the screw back in place.
-
9
Replace the battery. Turn on the computer. The computer will recognize the new memory and update the configuration.
