How to Convert Audible to Wave

Audible files (.aa or .au) by Audible.com are specially coded audio files that may be bookmarked. Audible files are often used for audio books and recorded speech. Audible files may be converted to other audio file types, including wave (.wav) files, using an audio conversion application. Several free and trial audio conversion applications are available for download, including CyberPower's Free Converter, Cool Music Converter and AudioEditor (see "Resources"). Using one of the audio conversion utilities, Audible files may be converted to the wave format in just a few simple steps.

      Download and install one of the audio conversion utilities (see "Resources.").

      Click the Windows "Start" button and select the audio conversion application program link.

      Click the "Add Files" button or link.

      Navigate to the Audible file to convert. Double-click the file to add to the audio conversion interface.

      Set the Output folder in the input box labeled "Output."

      Select "wave" (.wav) as the output type from the drop-down list of output file types.

      Click the "Convert" button to convert the file. A dialog box will indicate when the file has finished converting.

      Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the new wave file. Verify the conversion by playing the wave file in a compatible player.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure to have plenty of hard drive space when working with audio and video conversions. Some media files may be quite large both before and after conversion.
