1
Take a visit to Barnes and Noble and take note of the way it looks, the atmosphere of the store and how all the books are categorized. Write down the kind and layout of the furniture they use, music playing and even lighting fixtures. Compile the basic features at the store and list what you'll want to have in your own library at home.

2
Figure out where you want your library to be in your house. Regroup all of your books and materials to the desired location. Peek at your list and decide what simple kinds of furniture and decor you're going to need, to make your library have more of a Barnes and Noble look. Do some hunting around at stores or garage sales, if you can't find the materials you need already at home.

Add comfortable furniture similar to what you've seen at Barnes and Noble, like a dark wooden desk, a padded reading chair or a contemporary tan couch. Set up warm lighting fixtures and neutral-colored decor. Some plants may look nice, or a small, round table top that look like the table arrangements of the store's cafe.

4
Organize your books by the genres implemented by Barnes and Noble, like audio books, biographies, children's books and humor. Place each book into piles by subject. Coordinate the books in the piles in alphabetical order, by the last name of the author.

5
Make labels for your genres of books. You can create them on your computer and print them out, or you can write them out by hand and artistically decorate them to your liking. Place the labels on the shelves or on the side of the book shelf. Organize the books in alphabetical genre order from left to right, according to the labels on your shelves, and separate them with neat book ends.
