How to Paint on Glass Balls
Painting glass balls is a wonderful craft idea that takes minimal effort. Using an acrylic-based glass paint is easiest and produces beautiful results on the glass. Make sure to read the instructions on the glass paint very carefully to see if the particular brand requires an over or undercoat to work. There are no-bake glass paints available, but they take up to four days to dry and the paint can have problems clinging to the glass. Making the extra effort to bake the glass balls yields quicker and better quality results.

1
Remove the top of the glass balls and set aside. Rinse the balls in rubbing alcohol to remove all residue from the glass and allow to dry.
-
2
Choose either to paint on the inside or outside of the ball. To decorate the inside of the balls, simply drizzle a few different colors of acrylic glass paint inside the glass balls and rotate them to make the colors blend together. Continue until the balls have a marbleized effect and no clear spots remain. To paint specific designs on the outside of the glass balls, first set the balls on an empty egg carton. Use a paintbrush to paint the glass balls perched on the egg carton.

3
Set the painted glass balls inside an oven, directly on the rack. If the paint is on the inside of the balls, this will be easy. If there is paint on the outside of the glass balls, position the balls upside-down so that no paint is touching the oven rack. Set the oven temperature according to the directions on the bottle of paint and set the oven timer for the given amount of time.
-
4
Turn the oven off and allow the glass to completely cool within the oven. After the inside of the oven is no longer hot and the glass balls have returned to room temperature, remove the balls and replace the tops.
