How to Make Outdoor Ribbon Flowers
Outdoor ribbon flowers can add an artistic touch to a porch, patio, garden or yard. They can be hung from walls, ceilings, frames or used with rods to stick in the grass as freestanding forms. Creating your own outdoor ribbon flower is similar to creating an indoor ribbon flower. The only differences are that outdoor flowers tend to be larger than indoor and require outdoor ribbon to create. Outdoor ribbon is any type of weatherproof ribbon. Weatherproof means it is water repellent, resists fading in the sun and can withstand mild wind.

1
Take the end of the outdoor ribbon and measure in 1 inch. Leaving the 1 inch tail loose, gather the ribbon into a 5 inch long loop. Keeping the first loop pinched together with your fingers, gather the ribbon into another 5 inch long loop. Repeat process until you have six, even loops formed.

2
String some fishing line into a thick needle. Cut the line 12 inches long and tie a knot in the end. Pull the line through the bottom of the loops to keep them pinched together. Sew the line through the outdoor ribbon a few times, tie with a knot and cut the excess line.

3
Cut the outdoor ribbon loose from the roll, leaving a 1 inch end. The 1 inch ends should be long enough to help keep the ribbon flowers secure, but short enough to remain hidden.
-
4
Wrap a piece of wire around the base of the ribbon flower a few times, right above the stitching, and cut it short. This creates a flexible gathering to help arrange the loops to look like petals. Gently pull the loops in different directions until you create a round ribbon flower.

5
Repeat steps one through four, but use 3 inch long loops instead of 5 inch long to create a small outdoor ribbon flower. Use a heavy amount of Super Glue to secure the base of the small flower to the front-middle of the large flower. This should create a rounded ribbon flower full of petal loops.
-
6
Secure the outdoor ribbon flower to any flat surface, such as a wall, with tape or wire and a hook.

Tips & Warnings
Be creative with your ribbon choice when creating the outdoor ribbon flower. You can use different colors for the large and small flower pieces, such as pink and white. You can give the outdoor ribbon flower an elegant look by using gold or silver metallic ribbon. You can even give it a cheerful look by using rainbow striped and/or polka-dot ribbon.
If you don't want to use Super Glue and have a little extra time, you can use the fishing line to sew the large and small outdoor ribbon flowers together or twist the thin wire around both bases to secure the decoration.
