How to Braid Bull Rope
A bull rope is a useful piece of equipment for many reasons. It can be used to tie things down and also makes a neat whip. It is important to remember that a leather rope should never be used to hit any person or animal, and should only be used for light tasks or decorative purposes. This project is simple to do, and can be completed in one day.
Things You'll Need
- Long leather strips
- Sharp knife
- Plaiting soap
- Twine
- Bar soap
- Neatsfoot oil

1
Scrape off any threads on the leather strips using a sharp knife. You want the leather to be smooth as possible. Soap up the leather strips until they are soft and pliable. This will probably take several different applications. The more pliable the strands of leather, the stronger the rope will be.

2
Take three strands of the leather and tie the ends together with string. Hook the strips over a doorknob or other stable surface so the braiding can be tightened as you go along. Cross the left strand over the middle strand as tightly as possible. Then cross the right strand over the new middle strand. Tighten as you go. Continue in this manner, tightening as much as possible until you reach the end of the strands.

3
Tie some twine around the base of the rope. Remove the rope from the doorknob. Wrap the rope around your hand and pull the loose end through the loop, creating a knot at the end of the rope. Repeat for the other side of the rope. The knots will hold the rope together so it can be used for tying things together without the danger of coming loose. If the rope will be used for a whip, do not knot the ends. Cut off any loose ends of leather strips so they are out of the way.

Tips & Warnings
It is possible to make your own plaiting soap by melting strips of soap in some hot water then mixing in neatsfoot oil until thick. Do not allow the mixture to boil.
Be careful when working with sharp knives. The knife can easily slip and cause serious cuts.
Do not use the rope for climbing or for any other support tasks.
Test the rope's strength before using for any dangerous tasks.

I just left the PBR office and Shaunna Schmidt had a strange image on her forehead. It look liked the reverse impression of a bullriding trophy buckle. Has she been to Mexico lately? She Likes those hummers and she gives em south of the border...but she considers the border the Arkansas River not the Rio Grande. -

This instruction is a fraud and does not describ how to properly braid a bullrope. Dennis Schmidt the Beastmaster bator purchases his bullropes straight out of MEXICO from Henry Forbes whow used to be Larry Lancasters boyfriend.
