How to Antique Copper
Aged or antique copper has a beautiful green patina. With just a few steps and supplies you can change the look of your new copper pots, pans and accessories into the aged copper look you desire. Most of the supplies for this project can be found at your local grocery store. Assemble supplies before getting started, and make sure to work in a well ventilated area. Things You'll Need
- Water
- Clean rag or sponge
- Glass cleaner in spray bottle
- Safety goggles
- Gloves
- White vinegar
- Ammonia
- Non-iodized salt
- Spray bottle

Clean the copper piece with some plain water and a clean rag or sponge. Allow to dry.

Spray the entire surface of the copper piece with a light misting of glass cleaner. Let dry.

Put on gloves to protect your skin. Put on safety goggles to protect your eyes.

Mix two parts of white vinegar with 1 1/2 parts non-detergent ammonia, and one part of non-iodized salt. Put mixture in plastic spray bottle.

Spray the copper item with the ammonia, salt and white vinegar mixture. Make sure to cover completely. Allow to dry overnight.

You should now have a powdery, green finish on the copper. It will continue to cure and age as time goes on.

Make sure to work in a well-ventilated area. Avoid burns and fumes by wearing goggles and protective gloves.
