How to Replace WinZip

Although WinZip is a useful file decompression utility, it is a shareware product and eventually the trial version will run out. Rather than paying for the full version, it is possible to get the same features of WinZip plus more by downloading and using freeware programs. Freeware means that the product is free of charge and there is no trial version. Unzip your files at no cost by replacing WinZip with a new zip program today.

1. Uninstall WinZip. Go to the "Control Panel" and select "Add or Remove Programs" for XP or "Programs and Features" for Vista. Click the WinZip application and choose "Remove."

2. Download the free IZArc zipping utility. Go to the IZArc website (see Resources) and click the button that says "IZArc 4.1 Free Download." Select the "Download" button and click "Save File As." Install the program and restart your computer.

3. Open a zip file and wait for the IZArc program to load. Click "Extract" to unzip the file to a new location.

4. Unzip files on the Internet. Go to the WobZip website (see Resources) and browse for a zip file on your computer. Click the "WobZip!" button to uncompress the file. This program is useful if you do not want to download a program onto your computer.

Tips & Warnings

• WobZip supports a maximum file size of 100 MB.

• You may also unzip from a URL on WobZip.
