How to Clean Ranger Boat Seats
Ranger boat seats are made of soft, weather-proof vinyl with a hard plastic frame. You should clean your boat seats frequently to keep them looking better and the vinyl upholstery supple. The sun, wind, water and oils from the body or from sunscreen products can take a toll on these seats. Cleaning them the right way, with proper boat upholstery cleaning products, will make the seats look better much longer.
Things You'll Need
- Bucket
- Marine vinyl cleaner (or mild soap and water)
- Cleaning brush
- Sponge
- Towels
Instructions
-
-
1
Fill a bucket with clean water. This is your water for rinsing the seats after cleaning them.
-
2
Spray a marine vinyl cleaner, available at stores that carry boat supplies, on the seat. Do only one boat seat at a time so the product does not dry on the seat before you have a chance to clean and rinse it. If you don't have marine vinyl cleaner and choose to use soap and water, mix a tsp. of mild liquid soap with one gallon of water in a bucket (a separate one from your rinse bucket).
-
-
3
Use a cleaning brush, also available at boat supply stores, to scrub the seat. The brush will allow you to get into the crevices where dirt, body oil and mildew may hide.
-
4
Rinse the brush in the bucket of rinse water and apply cleaner to the hard plastic frame. Scrub this frame briskly with the brush.
-
5
Dampen a large sponge in the bucket of rinse water and wipe down the entire seat. This will rinse off soap residue as well as the dirt you scrubbed up from the crevices and seams.
-
6
Dry the ranger boat seat with a towel. Move on to the next seat (if your boat has more than one) and repeat the cleaning process.

Tips & Warnings
Likesidecanvas.com suggests cleaning boat vinyl once every 3 weeks during the boating season.
Alcohol or solvent based cleaners will harm marine vinyl, making it brittle.
Lakesidecanvas.com warns you should use marine vinyl cleaner only---not automotive vinyl cleaner---on boat seats. Marine vinyl is specially treated to stand up to the elements. Some automotive vinyl cleaners may contain ingredients that will break down these special treatments.
