How to Prepare for Army Bootcamp
Army bootcamp, or basic combat training, is held in five locations across the United States. All people enlisted in the Army must complete nine weeks of basic combat training prior to learning about their military occupational specialty or job at their advanced individualized training (AIT). According to the Army Study Guide website, enlistees should prepare before leaving for basic combat training.

1
Prepare physically. Enlistees will be put through a rigorous series of physical fitness tests and tasks on a daily basis. Even the physically fit may have difficulty adjusting to the schedule and duration of fitness activities in basic combat training. Enlistees should practice running eight minute miles and do push-ups, sit-ups and pull-ups.

2
Prepare mentally. Basic combat training is just as tough mentally as it is physically. The job of the drill sergeants is to break down the enlistee in order to build him back up according to the Army standards and values. Realize that millions have successfully completed the challenge of basic combat training before you. While the training may be tough and the drill sergeants may seem to make it harder, know that their objective is to make you the best possible soldier you can be.

3
Adjust your internal time clock. Depending on the location you attend for basic training, you may need to adjust your internal time clock before you attend basic training. If your basic training duty station is in a different time zone, begin to live on that time several weeks before leaving for basic training. Help your body adjust to less sleep and getting up earlier in the mornings by setting the alarm for no later than 4:30am.

4
Break bad habits. Unhealthy habits such as eating junk food, smoking and alcohol consumption will not be allowed during basic combat training. Break the habits before you leave, to ensure a smoother transition. The stress of beginning training is hard enough without adding additional stress from giving up your vices.
