How to Display Restaurant Gift Cards for a Chinese Auction
A Chinese Auction, sometimes referred to as Pick-a-Prize, is a great way to raise money for charity organizations. Donated prizes are displayed, each with a fishbowl in front. Participants purchase tickets and put them in the fishbowls of the prizes they would like to win. Gift cards make great prizes for this type of drawing, but are too small to catch the eye of the ticket holders. Displaying them in frames will encourage greater participation. Inexpensive frames can be found at dollar stores or thrift shops to keep auction costs down.

Displaying Gift Cards
-
1
Cut the posterboard into 5-by-7 inch pieces. This will be the backing for each displayed card, and will fit inside the frames.
-
2
Cut pieces of scrap wrapping paper to fit each piece of posterboard. As an alternative, cut many smaller pieces of wrapping paper, and use a glue stick to attach them mosaic-style to the backing.

3
Mount each gift card. Gift cards are usually attached at purchase to a cardboard backing with a gummy adhesive that peels off. Use this adhesive to mount it in the middle of the decorated backing. Others and larger, paper gift certificates can be attached with a small loop of cellophane tape in the center, just to hold them in place.

Stand frames for display. Some frames have a triangular fold-out stand attached on the back, which allow them to stand alone. Frames without this feature can be leaned against a prettily wrapped box. You may need to put a book or two inside the box to make it heavier than the frame, which will keep the box in place.

Draw tickets for the winners. Since little expense went into the frames, they can be given to the winners as a bonus prize, making your Chinese auction more popular!

Tips & Warnings
Avoid white glue for attaching wrapping paper. The moisture content of white glue is high enough to make the colors in the wrapping paper run, turning your project into a mess!
