How to Draw Storage Shelving
If you're planning on adding some storage shelving to your home or are drawing up some plans to include some shelves, you may find yourself tasked with trying to draw the shelves. Whether you're going to build yourself a set or just want to see what the shelving would look like in a certain space in your home when you're creating your plans, drawing a set is a relatively simple job.

1
Decide how many shelves you plan to have on your standing unit. A common number is four. Use your ruler as a straight edge and draw a five inch tall vertical line on the right center of your paper. Measure four inches away and to the left of that line and draw another vertical line. Use the ruler to draw a straight horizontal line that connects the tops and bottoms of the two vertical lines to make a square.

2
Draw a four inch line from the top right point that juts out at a 45 degree angle to the right, then draw a five inch line down from the end of that line. Add a connecting line on the bottom of the line you just drew and the first vertical line. You should now have a full square that represents the side of the shelving unit.

3
Draw another 45 degree line to the top left that is the same as the right 45 degree line, then add a line to the back that connects those lines. You should now see a 3D cube taking shape, so add the corresponding lines to make it complete. Add two more 45 degree lines to in the right square side so that you have four stacked lines, the "shelves."

4
Repeat the above steps to flesh out the two other shelves to give a 3D appearance of four stacked shelving platforms on one standing shelving unit. Erase any overlapping or errant lines. Write in any measurements to the drawing to signify any actual measurements you may have in mind, such as height of the unit and shelf length and depth.
