How to Put a Dell Mouse Back Together

Most roller ball mice come apart. They have rollers and moving parts that collect dust and debris. A buildup of debris inside the mouse can cause it to function sluggishly, and can even make the mouse stop working altogether. When the build-up of dust and particles occurs, it is necessary to take the mouse apart, clean it and then put it back together, so that the mouse continues to work properly. Mouse parts can also be repaired or replaced quickly and easily.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the inside of the mouse for any foreign debris. Use a can of compressed air if needed, or a soft brush to remove the debris. Focus on the tension rollers inside, because that is where the majority of the debris collects, which will disrupt proper mouse functioning.

    • 2

Clean the ball and place it back inside the mouse. Make sure it is sitting centered, touching all rollers.

    • 3

Set the collar in place, on top of the ball. It should be sitting with the ball coming out of the hole slightly, perfectly centered in the middle.

    • 4

Turn the collar clockwise until it clicks.

    • 5

Check the mouse and see how it is working on the computer. If it is not working properly, disassemble and reassemble.

Tips & Warnings

  • Compressed air is useful in removing debris because it allows air to push the debris out from where you can't reach. You can buy compressed air at any computer or electronics store such as Best Buy or Walmart.

  • Make sure all electronics are unplugged from their power sources before taking them apart to avoid electrocution. Failure to do so may result in severe injury or death.
