Difficulty: Moderately Easy
General Considerations
Step1
Decide what time of year you'll be visiting. The weather is fairly mild year-round, although summers can be hot and humid and winter temperatures can dip to freezing.
Step2
Try to avoid late August and early September, when thousands of students pour into Atlanta to attend college and hotel rooms become difficult to find.
Step3
Find out if there are any festivals or events you'd like to check out (see Section 2, below).
Step4
Seek out inexpensive flights, transportation and accommodations.
Step5
Check the weather forecast shortly before you head off to Atlanta, and pack accordingly.
Seasonal Events and Attractions
Step1
Feel the power of one of history's greatest leaders and soak up the history of the Civil Rights Movement at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Historic Site.
Step2
Enjoy good, down-home soul food at Thelma's Kitchen or Beautiful Restaurant, near Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Step3
Get caught in the frantic buzz of the team that brings the news to the world at the CNN News Center.
Step4
Stop by the Carter Presidential Center, which honors the life, career and presidency of the 39th president of the United States.
Step5
Get to the heart of Georgia at the Atlanta History Center, which explores all of the elements of the state's history, from the gushing fictions of "Gone With the Wind" to the grittier reality of the Ku Klux Klan.
Step6
Take in a cultural event amidst the extravagantly art deco surroundings of the Fox Theater.
