How to Clean Micro Suede Fiber

Micro suede is a type of polyester fabric that is durable, inexpensive and easy to clean. From sofas to pillows, micro suede is used on a variety of different furnishings. To clean micro suede, you don't need a special cleaner. You don't need to clean the entire micro suede item either. Things You'll Need

  • 3 white cloths or rags
  • 2 small bowls
  • Measuring cup
  • Vodka or other clear alcohol
  • Latex gloves
  • Old toothbrush
  • Baking soda
  • Warm water

Instructions

      Use a clean white cloth or rag to brush off any loose dust, dirt or debris from the micro suede item.

      Fill a small bowl with 1 1/2 cups of vodka or other clear alcohol. Wear latex gloves to keep your hands from getting wet.

      Dip a clean white cloth or rag into the vodka. Wring out excess alcohol.

      Blot the stain enough to apply the vodka onto the stain. Do not rub.

      Scrub the spot with an old toothbrush to break up any set-in stains.

      Dip the white cloth or rag back into the bowl of vodka. Wring out excess alcohol. Blot away any remaining dirt.

      Press a dry white cloth or rag to absorb excess alcohol from the spot. Turn the cloth or rag to a dry spot and continue pressing the micro suede until it is dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • For odors, clean the spot with alcohol as instructed. Then mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda and 1 tablespoon of warm water. Stir the mixture into a paste. Wet a white cloth or rag with warm water. Wring out excess water then dip the cloth into the paste. Apply about a tablespoon of the paste to the spot with the odor. Let the paste dry then gently blot it off. Follow the cleaning instructions once more.

  • For food, coffee, wine or juice stains use a teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide to remove the stain. Apply with a white cloth or rag and blot the stain. Clean the fabric using the alcohol method.
