1
Purchase your color of choice at a local drugstore or beauty supply shop. When dying your hair, always wear old clothes to protect your skin and plastic/latex gloves to protect your hands.
-
2
Put your hair in a low ponytail, making sure it's centered if you want all of your tips dyed. Affix a ponytail holder near the tips where you want the dye to end. If you want to dye just the under-layer, divide your hair in half and tie off the top portion into a bun with a ponytail holder. Affix the under layer of your hair in a low ponytail, making sure it's centered, and place a ponytail holder near the tips where you want the dye to end.

Combine the hair color with the developer in the application bottle. Screw the top on tightly and shake the bottle to thoroughly combine the dye ingredients, then pour into a small bowl.

4
Dip your ponytail into the hair dye up to the first ponytail holder. It is best to have someone do this for you. Leave the ponytail in the dye for 5 minutes. When the ponytail comes out, spread the dye throughout the tips to ensure all the hair is saturated.

5
Rinse your tips with warm water. Continue rinsing until the water runs clear. Apply a color conditioner to your hair and leave it in for 2 minutes. Rinse out, again using only warm water.

6
Style your hair as usual.
