How to Use Chi Products on Black Hair

Chi products are fantastic straighteners that can get even the most coarse, curly and hard-to-maintain hair silky, smooth and straight. Although the irons are expensive, if you want your hair to be straight without damage, the money is worth it (many cheap flat irons will damage the hair). No matter what kind of hair you have, you will use the same method in straightening your hair with a Chi straightener. So grab your flat iron, turn it on and let it heat up. When it's ready, you can start to get the smooth, straight locks you've been looking for. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. For Straight Hair

    • 1

Turn the flat iron on and use the rat-tail comb to separate the hair while the iron is heating up.

    • 2

Divide the hair in half, separating the top of the hair with the bottom. Clip the top of the hair to the top of your head.

    • 3

Divide the back of the bottom layer of hair in half. Clip back one side.

    • 4

Bring the iron up to the top of the one section that is not clipped back. Slowly, pull the the flat iron down and run it through the entire strand of hair. This makes it straight and glossy-looking. For super coarse hair, run the flat iron through the same section of hair two to three times until the section is straight.

    • 5

Let the other section of your hair down and repeat Step 4.

    • 6

Let down the top section of your hair and divide it in half. Repeat Step 4 for the first section and again with the last section.

    For Curls or Waves

    • 7

Divide the hair in half, separating the top of the hair with the bottom. Clip the top of the hair to the top of your head. Then divide the back of the bottom layer of hair in half. Clip back one side.

    • 8

Bring the iron up to the top of the one section that is not clipped back. Slowly, pull the the flat iron down and begin turning the iron slightly inward.

    • 9

Continue turning the iron as you slide down the section of hair. Release the iron at the end of the hair. The strand of hair will be curled.

    • 10

Let the other side of your hair down and repeat steps 2 and 3. Let the top of the hair completely down and section it off (right side, left side, back right and back left). Continue these steps for the remaining four sections of hair. Your hair will be wavy in no time.

Tips & Warnings

  • For tighter curls, twist the section of hair completely around the flat iron and hold for two seconds.

  • Always section off your hair; it will be easier to straighten.

  • Flat irons can get extremely hot. Never hold the iron in place to your hair for longer than three seconds; you could damage your hair. Keep children away from the iron while it is on. And always use caution when straightening near the face, ears or the back of the neck.
