How to Get Rid of Wet Stains on Hardwood Floors

While hardwood floors are generally easy to clean, all it takes is one spill that never got wiped up, or one wet pair of shoes that sat too long in the corner, for you to end up with a wet stain on your hardwood floor. Luckily, as long as the stain isn't too bad, you're not going to need to refinish the floor. All you need are a few products, a little time, and that wet stain will be gone from your hardwood floor before you know it.

Things You'll Need

• Hardwood floor cleaner
• Vinegar
• Water
• Soft rags

Instructions

1. Buy some cleaner designed just for hardwood floors from a home supply store. Apply it to the wet stain with a rag (reference 1).

2. Mix water and vinegar together and apply it to the wet stain with a rag.

3. Dry the area completely after you have applied the two solutions.

4. Rub the stain softly with sandpaper until it's gone. Be patient. It might seem easy to speed up the sanding in order to get rid of the stain quicker, but it will probably end up causing you to have to refinish the entire floor.

5. Clean the sanded area with a soft rag.

• Do not use ammonia, or any product with ammonia in it, because it will damage a hardwood floor (reference 1).
