1
Store the daylily seeds until ready to plant. Before you can sow the seeds, they will need to be soaked.
-
2
Add 2 tsp. of tap water to each Ziploc bag. You can add three to five seeds to one bag. Place the seeds inside the bag. Make sure you remove any excess air from the bags. Place the Ziploc bags in a container, and refrigerate them for three to four weeks.

3
Sow the seeds once they sprout in the bags. Dig a hole 1/2 inch deep, and sow the seeds together in a 4- to 6-inch pot.
-
4
Place the pot in a window that receives plenty of sunlight. After two to six weeks, the seedlings will begin to appear. Sometimes the seedlings can take as long as three to four months.
-
5
Transplant the seedlings to your garden. Only transplant the seeds once the danger of frost passes.
-
6
Test the pH level of the soil with a pH test probe. Dig a hole at least 2 to 3 inches in depth. Pour in enough water to fill the hole halfway, and insert the probe for 60 seconds. Although daylilies can adapt to various soils, the pH levels needs to read around 6 to 6.5 for healthy flowers. Make sure you have well-drained soil.
-
7
Fumigate the soil to kill any weeds. The weeds will often grow faster than the daylilies, which can ruin your flowers.
-
8
Plant the daylilies in early fall or spring. The soil temperature needs to be moderate. Plant the daylilies 18 to 24 inches apart.
-
9
Water them every 2 to 3 days. Ensure that the soil stays moist to ensure high quality flowers.
-
10
Fertilize the daylilies lightly. Use fertilizer that has a moderate amount of nitrogen and a high amount of phosphorus and potash. Only fertilize the daylilies in early spring, and once in the middle of summer.
