How to Make Green Olives Out of Sculpey Clay

Sculpey is a polymer clay that can be easily molded into nearly any shape. Once baked, it is strong and will last for a long time. To mold olives out of Sculpey clay, you may select original Sculpey clay in white and paint the final project, or use shades of green and red Sculpey to eliminate painting. There are many tools available for use with polymer clay, but household items can be substituted to cut costs and are just as effective.

Instructions

    • 1

Knead Sculpey polymer clay according to package directions. This prepares the clay for use and facilitates molding.

    • 2

Roll the clay between your palms into a slightly elongated ball. At one end, make an indentation using your pinkie finger for a pit or a pimiento.

    • 3

At the other end, use the tip of a very small Phillips head screwdriver to make a slight x-shaped indentation. This will match the bottom of a real olive.

    • 4

Roll a small piece of clay for the pit or pimiento. An olive pit is dark gray, while a pimiento is a vivid orange-red. Either way, insert the piece so it protrudes a bit from the indentation.

    • 5

Bake your olive in an oven preheated to an accurate 275 degrees F for 30 minutes per 1/4-inch of thickness. If your olives are 1 inch thick, they will need to bake for two hours.

    • 6

Paint cooled olives (if white clay was used) with acrylic paints. Let dry, then spray lightly with acrylic sealer.
