How to Run a Business Credit Report

Businesses do not use the same credit reporting system as individuals. All business credit reporting is voluntary, which means that not all businesses will necessarily have an accurate credit report. There are three major credit reporting companies for businesses: Dun & Bradstreet, Equifax Business and Experian Business. Running a business credit report requires that you open an account with one or more of these credit bureaus and requesting the credit report using the business' name and Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN).

Instructions

    • 1

Open an account with one or more of the major business credit reporting bureaus. You can do this by going to their business websites and then paying a fee. Each of these companies has different levels of membership that offer different numbers of credit reports you can order along with more detailed information should you request it. Anyone who provides payment and accurate billing information is eligible to order credit reports on businesses.

Request a credit report for the business that you're looking for. As no business is required to report accounts to the credit bureaus, you may not find the record of the business that you're looking for by sending in for a report to just one of the bureaus. If the business has little established credit record or is very new, they may not yet have an accurate report with any of the bureaus.

    • 3

Find out the business credit score of the company you're trying to learn more about. The credit score will be included in any credit reports that you order. Business credit scores run from 1-100. Businesses with scores of 30 or below are almost certainly insolvent. Companies with scores above 70 make all their payments on time or early.

Review any additional information about the business provided to you by the subscription level you have selected with any of the credit bureaus. This includes detailed information about any collections, judgments and payment records attributed to a company.
