How to Recover a Gateway Laptop Without the CD
Recovery programs are useful where your computer has a fatal problem, whether inflicted from a hardware malfunction, a virus or another type of malware. Most Gateway laptops ship with a recovery CD, useful for a one-stop location for returning your computer to factory condition. However, where the CD has been lost or misplaced, all is not lost. For later model Gateway laptops (post 2004), there are ways to perform a recovery operation without the use of the CD.

1
Call Gateway or visit their Web page to request another recovery CD if your computer shipped prior to November 1, 2004. Unfortunately, this is the only way to initiate the recovery process for older Gateway laptops.

2
Visit the Gateway page (linked below) and select your specific notebook model for information on the specific recovery procedure for your individual laptop. The model number should be located on either the front of your machine or on the sticker attached to the bottom. When in doubt, call or email Gateway for a replacement copy of your purchase invoice, which will contain the model number of your laptop.

Download the documentation file "How to Install Drivers and Software" link on the page for the specific instructions on recovering your computer in the absence of a CD. While the process can vary substantially depending the model of your computer, the general steps are as follows: go to the start menu, access the Gateway Recovery Center and follow the on-screen instructions to begin the recovery process.

Tips & Warnings
Recovery could delete all of your saved files and information, so copy any backups of vital documents to a CD, floppy or USB drive prior to beginning the recovery process.
