How to Create a Hyperlink in Email

If there is information on a website that you would like to place inside the body of an email message, you don't have to type or paste the information. Instead, you can create a "hyperlink," also known as "hotlinking." By creating the hyperlink, the email recipient can click on text that is inside of your email message. He will then be taken to a website of your choice to read the extra details. Although there are a lot of different email programs you can use, the protocol for creating the hyperlink remains the same across the board.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your email program of choice.

    • 2

Click on the option "New Message," "Create Mail," or "Compose" a message. The exact wording may vary slightly, depending upon the email program you are using.

    • 3

Enter the address of the email recipient in the "To" field. Enter the topic of your email in the "Subject" field.

    • 4

Begin typing your text inside the "body" of the email message. If you don't want to type text, you can insert an image instead.

    • 5

Drag your mouse over the text you would like to create a hyperlink for. If you chose to use a picture in the previous step, simply drag your mouse over the picture to highlight it.

    • 6

Click on the hyperlink toolbar option. In most cases, this option will be indicated by an unbroken chain link. If you don't see an unbroken chain link on the toolbar, click on "Insert" and select "Hyperlink" or "Link."

    • 7

Type the "URL" you would like the email recipient to be taken to when he clicks on the link. For example, http://www.yoursite.com.

    • 8

Click "OK" to save the link.

    • 9

Click the "Send" option to send your message.
