How to Cook Bone-In Chicken in a Slow Cooker

A slow cooker is a useful kitchen appliance, especially for making a variety of different chicken recipes. When you prepare chicken in a slow cooker, the result is tender and flavorful chicken that requires little to no effort. Bone-in chicken is particularly suitable for slow cooking, especially when you add a cream soup base and light seasonings. Things You'll Need

  • Four Bone-in chicken breasts
  • Paper towels
  • One can cream of celery or cream of chicken soup
  • ½-cup water
  • ¼-cup chicken broth
  • ¼-tsp. thyme
  • Salt and pepper

      Remove the chicken breasts from the packaging and wash them in cool water. Pat the chicken breasts dry with the paper towel.

      Place the creamed soup, the water, the chicken broth and the thyme into the slow cooker. Mix the ingredients with a spoon to incorporate them.

      Place the chicken breasts into the slow cooker on top of the other ingredients with the meaty side of the chicken breasts facing down into the ingredients.

      Sprinkle salt and pepper over the chicken breasts.

      Turn the slow cooker on high and cook the chicken breasts for one hour. Reduce the slow cooker temperature to low and continue cooking for approximately six hours.

      Check the chicken within the last hour of cooking. If the chicken is finished cooking, remove it and place it on a serving platter. Cover the chicken with the sauce from the slow cooker to serve.
