How to Draw a Compost Mound
Part of "going green" that many environmental experts advise is creating your own compost pile. Easily stored in a bin to keep it away from rummaging animals, the compost pile consists of biodegradable organic material. Drawing one is like drawing any other object in the physical world: It's all about the details, so be sure to include random discarded banana peels, old veggies, and egg shells to give the drawing a more realistic appearance.

1
Draw a cone centered on your paper, sized according to how big you want your drawing. Erase the bottom of the cone and redraw a bottom curving "U"-shaped line to the cone shape. At the top point, draw a squiggly line down the left side, taking care to make the line amorphous with little symmetrical shape. Erase the cone line underneath.

2
Repeat the step for the right side, then erase the bottom curved line and redraw another squiggle in its place. Add small details, such as the aforementioned banana peels, half-eaten carrots or cracked eggshell pieces, at random. Your imagination's the limit, as long as you're not drawing random garbage that wouldn't go in a compost pile. Avoid a logical pattern for realism.

Add in branches and twigs of foliage, or dried grass clippings.Trace your drawing in the black ink to allow your art to stand out on the page, then use the colored pencils to add texture and color to the pile, specifically greens, browns, yellows, grays and blacks.
