How to Clean Pond Filter Pads

- Large-diameter hose
- Submersible pump or large bucket
- Tools to open pond filter

Turn off the power to the filter. Using the tools recommended by the pond filter manufacturer, open your filter to have free access to the pond filter pads.

Connect a large-diameter hose to the submersible pump and place the submersible pump in the pond. You should have sufficient water flow to clean the filter pads.

Remove two of the pads from the filter and rinse them well with pond water. Shake the remaining pads in the filter tank in an up-and-down motion. Tap the filter pads gently on the ground to remove residue, if necessary.

Open the drain valve and drain the chamber of the filter. Flush out residue using some pond water. Close the drain valve.

Place the pads back in the chamber and replace the cover. Turn the power on to the pump and make sure it operates properly.

Tips & Warnings
If you don't have a submersible pump, use a large bucket that has no traces of any chemical whatsoever. Fill the bucket with pond water and pour the water over the filter.
Don't overshake or overclean your filter pads, which can destroy and dislodge the good bacterial organisms on the filter.
