Have your installer paint a picture with dyes. While a blue and yellow striped countertop won't exactly wow potential homebuyers, it's the possibility that counts here.

Add an insert. Concrete countertops can accept nearly any material as an insert, including natural stone, glass tiles or pieces, wood carvings and metal. Ask your supplier for suggestions or browse photos online for inspiration

Opt for integrated features. The beauty of concrete as a kitchen countertop material lies in its versatility. Any feature you can dream up can likely be integrated, including seamless sinks and backsplashes, drain boards, trivets and recessed herb pots.

Choose your edge. Edge options are practically limitless when you are working with concrete, as molds can be inserted into the concrete form for an embossed edge in just about any configuration. Talk to your concrete countertop supplier about the standard edges they offer, as will as your options for having a custom mold created.
