1
Draw a monthly calendar on a large poster board, using a marker and ruler. You can also buy a calendar, but be sure it's large enough for the students sitting in the circle to see.
-
2
Buy stickers for students to put on the calendar. Some ideas are weather stickers (for when its windy, cold, rainy, snowy, sunny or cloudy), holiday stickers and birthday. You can also make your own objects to stick on to the days on the calendar.

3
Every morning, at circle time, announce that it is "calendar time."
-
4
Have the helper of the day add a corresponding sticker or stick-on to the day. For example, if it is cloudy, she could add a cloudy sticker. It it is someone's birthday, she can add a birthday sticker.
-
5
Ask the students: "What month are we in?"; "What day is today?"; and "What day of the month is today?"
-
6
Sing a simple song that helps your students remember the calendar lesson. For example, have the circle sing the days of the week (Monday, Tuesday, etc.) to the tune of "Oh My Darling, Clementine."
-
7
If it is a holiday such as Thanksgiving or Easter is approaching, say "It's just seven days until Thanksgiving!" and have the circle count the days out loud.
