How to Fix Scratched Hardwood Flooring

- Fine sandpaper
- Cloth
- Mineral spirits
- Color-coordinated filler
- Plastic putty knife
- Level
- Wood finish
- Lamb's wool cloth
- Natural bristle brush

Sand the entire scratch with fine sandpaper in the same direction as the grain of the wood. Remove the sanding dust with a soft, clean cloth soaked in mineral spirits. Let stand for 30 minutes.

Apply the color-coordinated filler found in a hardwood touch-up kit with a plastic putty knife to avoid scratching the floor. Squeeze the filler from the tube and apply it to the scratch. Let stand for 30 minutes.

Sand the dried excess filler. Use a level to make sure the filler is level with the floor.

Apply a matching wood finish to the treated area with either a lamb's wool cloth or natural bristle brush. Let dry for approximately one hour.
