Bread is a staple food that makes a wonderful addition to most meals. It can be served as a side dish such as bruschetta or just as a backup carbohydrate to add to the meal. Adding oregano (also known as wild marjoram in many parts of Europe) to bread will spice up otherwise plain tasting bread by lending its warm, balsamic and aromatic flavor as well as packing it full of nutrients such as fiber, iron and manganese. Things You'll Need

  • 3 tsp. salt
  • 3 to 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 tbsp. sugar
  • 2 1/2 tsp. soy powder or milk powder
  • 1/4 stick of butter
  • 1 cup, 2 tsp. water
  • Dried oregano
  • 2 Large bowls
  • Spoon
  • Glass
  • Spatula

Instructions

      Mix salt, baking powder and flour by hand in a large bowl.

      Whisk the eggs in a bowl. Add sugar and butter. Stir the mixture with a spoon until it is well mixed.

      Stir the soy powder or milk powder and water in a glass until smooth.

      Add both the bowl containing sugar, butter and whisked egg and the glass containing the soy powder or milk powder mixture to the flour. Stir with a spatula until the dough is smooth.

      Let the dough settle for approximately 30 minutes.

      Form the dough into whatever shape you prefer. You can make a traditional rectangular-shaped loaf, round buns or get creative and make an entirely different shape.

      Mix dried oregano and egg yolk in a small bowl. Spread this mixture on top of the bread.

      Wait 40 to 50 minutes. This time will allow gravity to do its work, allowing the dough to settle and take proper shape into a loaf.

      Bake in a preheated traditional oven at 350 F for approximately 45 to 50 minutes.
