How to Get Eyelash Extensions

How to Get Eyelash Extensions thumbnail
With eyelash extensions, you don't need mascara.

Eyelash extensions became the new rage among celebrities in Hollywood around 2006 and now aestheticians and spas around the country offer the service. More natural looking than false eyelashes, synthetic extensions are actually glued onto your own eyelashes. They last two to four weeks, depending on the length of your natural eyelash growth cycle. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Call several spas or salons in your area and ask if they have an eyelash technician. If so, ask for information about the technician's training, such as where she got the training and by whom. Ask for photos of the technician's work and client testimonials.

Make an appointment and set aside at least one hour. A full set (top and bottom) of lashes takes more time than a half set (upper lashes only). During your appointment, the stylist will have you lie back with your eyes closed. She will apply protective pads on your lid and below your eye. Then she applies a tiny amount of specially formulated adhesive to a single synthetic eyelash and carefully attaches it to one of your lashes, approximately 1 mm from your natural lash line.

Carefully follow post-application instructions. For the 24 hours following your eyelash extension application, do not wear eye makeup or touch your eyes. Avoid exposure to water or hot steam.

Schedule an appointment in two to four weeks for a refill or in-fill appointment if you wish to maintain the eyelash extensions.

Tips & Warnings

  • A properly trained eyelash technician will ensure that the glue does not touch your skin or your eye.

  • You do not need mascara, however, if you wish to use it, use water-based mascara only sparingly with eyelash extensions; don't use waterproof mascara.

  • Avoid eyelash curlers; they can damage the extensions.

  • If you have allergies, a cold, or rub your eyes often, you may not be a good candidate for eyelash extensions.
