Dog shampoos can leave your dog smelling, well, like a dog. Nicely scented human shampoos aren't recommended for dogs because it can dry out their skin. Get the scent of human shampoo and the appropriate cleanser for your dog's skin by making your own dog shampoo. Fido will be smelling and looking great in no time.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 cup castile soap
  • Double boiler
  • 3 cups water
  • 6 tbsp. glycerin
  • 6 drops pine or lavender essential oil
  • 4 tbsp. denatured alcohol

Instructions

      Finely grate 1 cup of castile soap.

      Put grated castile soap into a double boiler along with 3 cups of water.

      Melt the soap and add 6 tbsp. of glycerin. Glycerin can be purchased in a pharmacy.

      Stir often while the castile soap is melting.

      Remove from heat when the soap has melted and mixed well with the water and glycerin.

      Let the soap mixture cool slightly.

      Add six drops of either pine essential oil or lavender essential oil and 4 tbsp. of denatured alcohol. Stir to mix the shampoo thoroughly.

      Pour the dog shampoo into a plastic bottle. Allow it to cool completely before using. Be sure to label your bottle with all of the ingredients.
