1. Design your yard signs to be eye-catching. Something that will visually capture attention like colorful paper or bright borders, maybe reflective materials or night lighting can create a sign that will make people notice what you have to say.

2. Construct your sign of a material that will remain flat, smooth and easy to read despite weather conditions.

3. Keep information short and concise. Big, clear lettering that is easy to read from a distance will help design a sign that communicates easily. Add details in smaller writing if you want below the headlines, but don't try to say too much. Signs need to be seen and digested quickly. Passersby - especially if driving by in a vehicle - will not have time to read a lot of information.

4. Use a picture if a photograph or graphic design can convey what you want to say quickly. Again, keep it simple. One clear picture that is easy to see from a distance can enhance the design of a yard sign.

5. Place you sign high enough that it is easily seen. Keep in mind your yard signs are likely to be viewed from eye level or from the height of someone sitting in a car. People are more likely to look at least two to three feet above ground level.

6. Design yard signs to be seen easily, bold and eye-catching and conveniently placed and you are most likely to get your message across easily. Getting people to read your well-designed yard signs is the first step to a successful sale.
